Ford Explorer Lease
Ford Explorer MPG
The Explorer is a highly efficient SUV, especially when equipped with the hybrid powertrain. This engine pairs with an electric motor to deliver a net system 318 horsepower and 322 lb-ft of torque. It can also tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. With the hybrid powertrain, you’ll get the following EPA-estimated MPG ratings:
- 23 MPG city
- 26 MPG highway
- 25 MPG combined
These numbers are all with 4-wheel drive (4WD). There are two other engine options, too. The standard 2.3L EcoBoost® I-4 engine gets an EPA-estimated 20 city/27 highway MPG with 4WD. Alternatively, the available 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine gets an EPA-estimated 18 city/24 highway MPG with 4WD.
Ford Explorer Towing Capacity
We already mentioned that the Explorer can tow up to 5,000 pounds with the hybrid powertrain. With the full gas-powered powertrains, it can tow even more when properly equipped:
- 2.3L EcoBoost® I-4: 5,300 pounds
- 3.0L EcoBoost® V6: 5,600 pounds
These engines get their strength from their turbocharged powertrains. The 2.3L EcoBoost® engine delivers a well-balanced 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The 3.0L EcoBoost® produces up to 400 horsepower, depending on your trim level, and up to 415 lb-ft of torque.
The available 4WD system also helps you tow with help from the Terrain Management System™. This system allows you to choose between seven different drive modes based on your driving conditions, including Tow/Haul mode.
Ford Explorer Interior
Inside the cabin of the Ford Explorer, there’s enough seating room for up to seven passengers. So, that’s you and six of your closest friends and family members. You’ll be able to stretch out in 152.7 cubic feet of total passenger volume.
If you have sporting equipment, suitcases, a cooler, or groceries to bring along for the ride, you can load them into the 18.2 cubic feet of trunk space behind the third row. For even more cargo room, fold down one or both of the back rows to reveal the following dimensions:
- Cargo volume behind second row: 47.9 cubic feet
- Cargo volume behind first row: 87.8 cubic feet
An available washable, reversible load floor makes for easy cleaning, too, after a muddy day on the soccer field or a long hike with friends.
Ford Explorer Trim Levels
When you decide to drive the Ford Explorer, you get to choose between five different trims:
- Explorer
- XLT
- Limited (hybrid available)
- ST
- Platinum
The Limited trim level is the only one to make the hybrid powertrain an option. If you want just the standard features, then the Explorer trim could be a good fit. This base-level trim comes with the standard 2.3L I-4 engine as well as the SYNC® 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity features.
Every other trim level adds on from there, putting its own unique spin on the Ford Explorer. For example, the ST is the only trim level with the 400-horsepower Enhanced 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine. The sales team at your local dealership can help you choose the right trim level for your lifestyle.
