The 2021 Ford EcoSport offers standout performance in the subcompact SUV marketplace. Taking a look at this popular vehicle alongside the Honda HR-V, one of its key competitors, will provide buyers with the information necessary to make the right choice for themselves and their families. Here is an in-depth look at the EcoSport vs. the Honda HR-V for 2021.

Powertrains and Performance

The EcoSport offers two engine options for buyers. The standard turbocharged three-cylinder engine delivers acceptable acceleration and power for drivers. The real power, however, is the four-cylinder engine, which produces 166 horsepower and can tow up to 2,000 pounds. With barely 1,500 pounds of towing capacity and a meager 141 horsepower generated by its single available engine, the Honda HR-V simply cannot compete with the EcoSport's power and performance in real-world driving conditions.

Car and Driver had high praise for the EcoSport's suspension, stating that it "effectively cushioned occupants" from rugged terrain. The HR-V, on the other hand, lacks the suspension damping necessary to take on these challenges in comfort. The CVT transmission of the HR-V offers a sluggish and unremarkable experience behind the wheel compared with the six-speed automatic featured on the Ford. Simply put, the EcoSport is more fun to drive than the Honda HR-V.

Interior Space and Technology

Inside the cabin of the EcoSport, taller drivers and front-row passengers are treated to plenty of headroom and legroom. Rear-seat comfort is also a selling point for the EcoSport over the HR-V. Both vehicles seat five and offer roughly comparable cargo space. The EcoSport is slightly narrower than its counterpart, which makes it easier to park in crowded urban environments. The optional Blind Spot Information System, referred to as BLIS, is an outstanding safety feature that is exclusive to Ford vehicles.

Motor Trend expressed approval of both the EcoSport's comfortable and spacious cabin and its intuitive infotainment system. The voice-activated Ford Sync 3 system works with Amazon Alexa, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay to provide the widest range of options for drivers. Ford lists the base S model of the EcoSport at $20,395, which comes in just under the starting MSRP of $21,220 for the HR-V. For features and value, the EcoSport handily outperforms the HR-V.
